All Through The House’s 4th Annual Coffeecake Contest

It was a beautiful day in Stoughton for our Annual Coffee Break Festival in Mandt Park.  Cars, coffee and crafts were the order of the day at the park, and the weather cooperated–a beautiful summer day to be outside!

At All Through The House, we were concerned with another coffee tradition, COFFEECAKE!  For the 4th year, we invited our customers, guests, cooking class students and just about anyone in the area who bakes to bring in their favorite coffeecake and it’s recipe to vie for prizes in our contest.  This year we had seven entries, all of them delicious.  You can find the recipes for each one at the Recipes tab on this website, and enjoy baking them at home!

Once all the cakes were checked in and situated around our kitchen, our judges, Becky B. and Brandon S. came in to give their expert coffeecake eating experience.  Cakes were judged based on appearance, taste, and “go back for seconds?”   They forced themselves to taste all the cakes objectively and find the best of the group.  Here they are working hard….

After tallying the points assigned to each cake, the judges announced their choice for first place:

IMG_1496-1Kathryn Vaughn’s “KVN’s BassAkward Coffee Cake”  The rich and cinnamon-y cake is a great match for coffee.  Thanks Kathryn for bringing it in!  Kathryn selected two USA Pan baking pans as her prize!  She will love using them!

After the judges were done, the cakes were put to the test of our customers.  Guests to the store were invited to taste all the cakes and vote for their favorite coffeecake.  At the end of the day, we tallied up their votes to find our “People’s Choice” winner….

IMG_1491and it was close!  Kathy Johnson’s “Blueberry Coffeecake” got the nod as the favorite from our guests!  Thanks Kathy for bringing us your husband’s favorite coffeecake–we hope you baked him one for home, too!  Kathy will get to select two USA Pan Baking pans for her efforts!

All in all it was a tight race—small amounts of votes separated winners from the rest, so obviously everyone enjoyed every entry!

Here’s Nancy Miller with her entry, “Traja Rum Chata Coffee Cake”

IMG_1490-1Nancy’s entry was the only one featuring chocolate AND a bonus of Rum Chata!  Thanks Nancy for baking up a goodie!

And thanks to our other bakers as well!  We sure appreciate your baking skills and what you produced for our contest this year!  All the cakes were delicious!  You are all winners to us!  Start thinking about what you’d like to bake for the 2015 Coffee Cake Contest!
